i use linux. my favorite distro is arch linux due to its simplicity, verbosity, performance, and rolling-release nature. i highly recommend looking into linux, because "microslop winbloat" 11 is a huge mess.
android has far more capabilities, tools, and freedom than ios, so i use grapheneOS, the private and secure mobile operating system. please look into it if you own a pixel phone.

everything sucks now
in today's age, using any device with a screen is almost garunteed to be a pain in the ass now.
ads included with paid services, enshittification, the fight for the right to repair, having to make an account for anything ever, AI, different streaming services to watch the entirety of a show, companies selling your data to data brokers. it is very easy to feel hopeless

get more features out of corpo apps with alternative frontends. these allow you to still use the same app but in a different way, and can potentially offer privacy and a better experience.

if you ever want to find a specific media, there's no garuntee it will be there the next time. so download any media you enjoy. this has the added benefit of being able to access media offline.

other tips
avoid apple devices if you can. they are terrible for privacy, and for the money they just aren't worth it. they are also a big target for hackers (because so many people use apple devices).
if you get an android phone, make sure it's CARRIER UNLOCKED and that the bootloader can be unlocked. otherwise, you may not get custom rom support, which sucks because custom roms can extend your phone's battery life and maximize performance and privacy.

a: i have it archived but it will no longer be accessible from the website. it kept increasing the size of the website each new version so i just got rid of it.
